Matthew Suttor

As a composer and educator who is passionate about exploring the intersection of technology and music, Matthew brings more than two decades of experience, empowering individuals and organizations to unlock their creative potential and thrive.


Matthew is driven by questions surrounding the creation of music from the patterns found in the natural world, the achievement of effective collaboration with AI, and the possibility of teaching creativity.

At Yale, Matthew first joined the faculty in the Department of Music and later that of the David Geffen School of Drama, where he serves as the director of the Beechman Center for Theatrical Sound and Music and has scored numerous theatrical productions. Matthew’s work has earned him international recognition, with his music being presented and broadcast across the Americas, Australasia, and Europe, including at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the Guggenheim, the New Zealand Festival of the Arts, the National Theatre in Prague, and on PBS. Matthew’s latest opera, I AM ALAN TURING, examines the pivotal role played by Turing in the conception of AI.
